A good friend of mine gave me a print copy of this article whose authors think the new pope may end priestly celibacy. Apparently, Pope Francis was supportive of a woman who was romantically involved with a bishop and was eventually married to him.
That possibility will certainly cause the far-right Catholic epologists some considerable heartburn.
Soli Deo Gloria

Celibacy should not have been put in place at the beginning, it has all been to save money for the Catholic church and now look what damage it’s done.
It has been nothing but utter greed which as caused the whole problem, it has caused nothing but hatred, friction, people have been abused sexually and emotionally and even though Cardinal O’Brien have been moved, that is not the end and there are not just a ‘handful’ of naughty clergy here and there, they are all over the place and still many keeping secrets so the best thing for it, the only way out is to abolish celibacy…..there is a lot more stuff from where all this came from, in the past there have been sexually active popes, what is the difference between then and now apart from money laundering at The Vatican, it is true about one thing-money is the root of all evil, The Vatican can vouch for that can’t it!
I know Pope Francis 1 is a compassionate man and that is all well and good but, how compassionate is he and is he compassionate about the right things? And, is he really thinking about the poor or is this just another “cover-up” only time will tell because to be honest, I know the poor should be top priority but I would have thought that abolishing celibacy would have been second on the list, people say, give the man some space he has only just been elected-true but, ten again all he needs to do is to sign the document to abolish celibacy former Pope Benedict XVI wouldn’t do that either for the same greedy reason, I’m sorry if I am wrong with this but, I really don’t know what is the delay, there is something really big happening at The Vatican and they are telling no one, it must be extremely serious as they are keeping so tight-lipped about the whole thing and everyone else has to shut-up as well or you get chucked out like Cardinal O’Brien yes, he has done wrong, he has done very wrong but so have very many we are not “allowed” to know about maybe even the pope himself yes! I am talking about the present one, we don’t know do we?
Thank you
LOL.
Why? St. Peter the first pope was married and many other apostles so…..why not? Why should it cause problems full stop, isn’t it causing problems now! have you seen the state of the Catholic church today?
I was mainly laughing at the mistaken notions of liberals who supposed Pope Francis would be similarly liberal-minded — as if the cardinals, those chosen by John Paul II and Benedict XVI, would consciously move the Church in a liberal direction.
And no, it’s not causing problems. To what “state” in the Church are you referring? If you mean the pedophilic sexual abuse of celibate clergy, such abuse is statistically just as common among married Protestant pastors; it only appears to be a systemic problem to Catholic clergy because the Catholic Church is a single global entity which assumes all blame for abusive clergy everywhere, while abusive Protestant pastors are generally seen as local, isolated incidents. As horrible and indefensible a crime as it is, the fact of the matter is that we are all fallen human beings prone to sin. There is no correlation between clerical celibacy and sexual abuse.
Or, are you referring to the “priest shortage” in the Church? That, too, is overestimated, as there has been a recent surge in vocations to the priesthood. The idea that requirements of celibacy are an obstacle to vocations is an argument without support.
And yes, Peter and some of the other apostles were married. But there was a good reason and a firm scriptural basis for valuing and eventually requiring celibacy in priests in the first centuries of the Church, and to allow married clergy now would be a much greater loss than it would be a gain. To become a priest is a holy calling, to consecrate oneself to the Church, “forsaking all others,” and placing service to the Church and to her faithful and to Christ above all other things. I see no reason why we would want to dilute that.
The priest shortage is far from over estimated I can tell you, I live in England, in Merseyside, our parish priest serves two parishes on his own, a priest down the road had a parish of his own and will start another parish as well as the one he is already serving starting from August this year, another parish nearby has one priest serving and number of parishes on his own and one who is resident has retired….. and there is much, much more, there is much suffering too in many of them, much is kept quiet in the Catholic church next you will be saying that pope Francis is working wonders for the church yes! for his own at The Vatican, all popes seem to be as bad as each other, I don’t know where you are getting your stuff from. this fella is still trying to save the place from more found fraud…..you were saying!
